League Soccer Overview: All League teams play in the Central Pennsylvania Youth Soccer League (CPYSL). They enable different soccer clubs to compete with each other (travel) by organizing the team registration, schedules, referees, and consistent rules. CPYSL is divided into three divisions: Division I, II, and III. Division I is the most competitive. MSC participates in this league by selecting teams of players from within the club and registering those teams with CPYSL. CPYSL then schedules games against teams from other clubs that are in the same division. Age groups available for both boys and girls include: U-9, U10, U-11, U-12, U13, U-14, U15, U-16 and U-18 based on registration numbers. Participating soccer clubs place the best players on Division I, then Div. II, and III. Games are scheduled within your division. There are fewer teams at the lower levels of play as the age group goes up (teenagers quit to pursue other commitments and school teams come into play). Game scores and team standings are recorded. CPYSL rules apply. There are paid and appointed referees. Games are half home/ half away...usually 8 total. MSC plays its home games at Friendship Park. Away games are at the opposition’s fields (Dillsburg, Redland, Lower Dauphin, Hamden, etc.). Any additional costs vary with the activities that the team elects to participate in. Some examples are second game jerseys, tournaments, team patches to exchange at tournaments, time and travel expenses to games and tournaments (e.g. meals/gas). Each team is together for the season that you are registered for (e.g. fall August-Nov or Spring May-June). Registration and team membership lasts one calendar year. This includes the fall and spring seasons. In addition, the team may participate in indoor leagues and attend tournaments during that year. The amount of soccer depends on the coach and team commitment. Usually, the higher the division level, the higher the level of commitment.

MSC strives to provide an objective selection process for league teams. Open tryouts are conducted (usually in April or May) for league teams for youths who are registered with MSC. The placement of a player on a Division I or II CPYSL team that did not attend the scheduled tryouts must be approved by a majority of the Board of Directors at a regularly scheduled board meeting. Independent evaluators and coaches evaluations from prior seasons will be utilized in the tryout process.

The Mechanicsburg Soccer Club provides top quality professional training and coaching to as many league teams as the Board sees financially viable. The club is currently using the services of both Nikolic Pro Soccer/Supernova as well as Bascome Pro Soccer. Tryouts are used as a guideline, and are not even necessary in some cases where previous year’s performance information is available. The president of the club has authority to excuse players from tryouts and has authority to negotiate with other club presidents the acquiring of players to fill team rosters with quality players. Secondary players/multiple sport players are encouraged to register when it strengthens a team. Likewise, playing up age groups is encouraged when it strengthens a team. The bottom line is that the board has power to create at its discretion the best teams possible and to give the better players an opportunity to play at very competitive levels.

Recreation Soccer Program: The recreation program is designed with an emphasis on developing soccer skills in a fun-filled environment which operates exclusively within the confines of MSC. Because the program is controlled by MSC, we are permitted to administer the program in a customized manner for each age group. The rules may be altered to suit the needs of our players. With approximately 400 players in the recreation program, this large base ensures a good level of competition within each age group.

Age groups available include: U6, U7, and U8. There is no MSC recreation soccer after U8. Teams are gender-specific unless registration numbers dictate the need to form co-ed teams. Players are divided by skill level across all teams to ensure even competition. Score and team records are not kept. For the Fall season, all games for U6-U8 players are at Fisher Park on Saturday mornings beginning after Labor Day and lasting 8-9 weeks. Practices are once or twice a week in the evenings. Practice times usually last about 1 - 1.5 hours. Any additional costs beyond registration fees vary with the activities that the team elects to participate in. Examples may include: coaches gift, post-season party, game day snacks, and trophies/awards.

The club offers professional training for its Recreation players. This will better develop players at early ages and prepare them for more competetive soccer in later years.

For all players at all age groups (League and Rec), the club will provide a uniform shirt, short, and socks. Players
must have their own shin guards, cleats, and soccer balls.

MSC also offers a 6-game Spring recreation program for ages U6-U8 with separate registration fees from the Fall program. The Spring program begins in April and lasts through May. There are generally no practices held during the Spring season due to the availability of fields. Games are played at Friendship Park.
